Inserters can selectively be set to pick up directly from a connector (which would get a little hole much like when they do a turn) by drag-dropping the inserter from connector to target building. They would still pass over connectors they have not

If connectors only cost power for each straight line drawn (microgravity so no constant push required through the entire line) rather than per individual connector they would be much easier to use, especially with the other proposed quality of life
