There’s a game called Drone Swarm where the drones are handled through the drawing of shapes.
We could use inspiration from this concept to make active combat using the combat bots more interesting and hopefully feeling more fluid and even better to use, making both defense and Carrier style combat ships more engaging.
For example, a primitive version might look like “If you click an ability (V, B, N) and then left-click drag it places a line of ability uses edge-to-edge (or denser than that for abilities that benefit from stacking).”
It even kind of works for the Obliterator disc if you use the next placement location as the target for the previously placed obliterator disc.
So instead of clickclick, clickclick, you select obliterator disc and draw a line from where you want them to shoot to where you want the disc to go and the longer a line you drag the more discs they send in a pattern that takes a step forward each time.
Though of course you could also do something more integrated with left and right click or shift and ctrl click/hold doing different things and more specific things than merely using their respective abilities.

Or if you draw a rough circle it might actually tell the bots to linger and fight in that area for a bit, even without using a specific ability.

ive got that game but i can never really remember all the patterns >_>
