Smaller or more usable Command Core#40

I’ve been tinkering with making as small a hauler as I can manage for a non-bus base, but an issue I keep running into is the difficulty of incorporating the command core.
It’s very large and it absolutely requires a single structure with 3 blocks on a side to mount to but can’t connect anything else on any other point, which also makes it much more inconvenient than other 3x3 blocks.

This leads to it almost always being in front or back since you can’t connect anything to it.

Therefore I’d like to suggest some possible routes to make it easier to work with if that is desired (maybe the challenge of incorporating it is the point):

  • Allow connections in the front of it or on the sides, so that things may be anchored to it by struts and easier to place in the middle of the ship.
  • Remove the requirement that it be anchored to a single structure and instead just let it be anchored to a sufficient number of anchor points even if they’re say 2 logistics stations side by side.
  • Make it able to anchor to a smaller number of connection points than 3 instead of requiring all 3 connection points to be attached, why not 1?
  • Make the whole command station smaller. A 3x2, 3x1, 2x2, or 1x1 block would be a lot easier to work with and wouldn’t take up as huge an amount of space inside an otherwise relatively small mobile station.
  • Give the thruster the full 12 connection points so we can put the command core on it.

I couldn’t agree with this more. It means that for small ships, you don’t only have a 3x3 command core, but also need a 3x3 station or defense platform. (yes you could use a quantum printer, but well, I wont)
